Sarah Fillier scored the go-ahead goal with 8:15 remaining to break a 3-3 tie as Canada defeated the United States 5-3 in Windsor, Ont., on Wednesday ahead of the world championships.

Sarah Fillier scored the go-ahead goal as Canada defeated the United States 5-3 in a pre-tournament game in Windsor, Ont., on Wednesday, ahead of the women's hockey world championships.

The victory snaps an eight-game losing skid for the Canadian women against the Americans, securing our team's first win over the U.S. squad since February 8, 2025.

Fillier's winner came with 8:15 left in the contest with the score deadlocked at 3-3. Laura Stacey added an empty-netter with six seconds remaining. Daryl Watts, Caitlin Kraemer and Rosalie Tremblay also scored for our side, while Hilary Knight and Abbey Murphy tallied for the Americans before Caroline Harvey tied it temporarily in the third period.

The two sides meet again on Friday in Plymouth, Mich., before the IIHF Women's World Championship opens on November 6 in Denmark.

Our squad heads into the world championships carrying momentum from our first victory against the Americans in nearly two years.
